Turn Saturday Mornings into an Interesting Family Outing :
The elementary and secondary pupils in classes with classmates with or without a German background or previous German experience; and the wife/ husband/ friends who do not speak German, or very little, in the adult groups of the right level!
We offer family discounts!
We also welcome lovers of German language and culture without no previous knowledge of the German language.

We focus on teaching German while covering German-speaking cultures and civilisations:
- Learning with projects, i.e. arts, theater, music and movement in the context of traditional German holidays throughout the seasons.
- Learning with extra-curricular cultural activities like the Lanterns’ parade in honour of St. Martin’s day in November, the baking of typical German Christmas cookies, the Easter-egg hunt, etc.

When? Saturday mornings between 9:00 and 13:00 pm, depending on your level.

We offer German courses of all levels to all age groups.
- A group for toddlers (1.5-4 years)
- A kindergarten class (4-6 years)
- Several elementary classes (7-12 years)
- A A2/B1 level group for high school students (gives 4 credits)
- A group of level A2 students (13-99 years)
- A group of level A1.2 students (13-99 years)

Our task is to promote and actively support the German language and culture in the province of Quebec . Our four Saturday schools teach German as a foreign language at all levels, to all age groups, integrating German culture, tradition and geography as well. Interested? New this year

April 2022

E-learning with virtual German classes - modern, interactive, dynamic - our qualified teachers will teach German courses online at all levels.

Nouveaute-Automne-2020 Lessons will combine the varied possibilities of the Moodle learning platform with meetings in virtual classrooms. The interactions with fellow students and teachers that occur in traditional classrooms will be maintained, along with the flexibility and freedom of e-learning. Lessons will be both pleasant and of high quality.

The online platform will be accessible always and everywhere, whether on the way to work, at the office, on the sofa, on vacation...


The benefits are :

  • Our experienced and qualified teachers will design the course, guide and motivating students;
  • The meetings in the virtual classrooms will be characterized by an interactive framework;
  • The diverse, multimedia content will motivate students to remain engaged with learning the language as an ongoing activity;
  • Ongoing feedback for the Moodle exercises will increase motivation;
  • Kindergarten classes will include learning German, singing and making handicrafts;
  • Education for young students will also include access to online gaming tools (Kahoots, Quizlets, etc.);
  • Students will be thoroughly preparation for the various exams and diplomas;
  • We offer language and conversation courses for adults;
  • We will offer targeted support for each individual student by adapting teaching methods and class times, always keeping in mind the age of the students;
  • All information will be clearly arranged and will be accessed at any time on the Moodle course page.

Fall Semester 2024 and Winter Semester 2025 - Courses begin September 7th

The Fall semester 2024 and Winter semester 2025, with a duration of 30 weeks, will begin September 7th. Learn German in our online courses, which are modern, interactive and dynamic lessons, accompanied by textbooks.

Registrations until August 15st are eligible for a $10 pre-registration rebate. It is easy and fast to register for one of our courses with our online form. Try our online registration!

Drawing and comic competition

Drawing and comic competition We present the e-book of the drawing and comic competition 'The pandemic is over! I am traveling to Germany! There I see/ I eat/ I visit/ I (don't like) … . Compared to Canada...' in collaboration with the Friedrich Schiller Foundation for German-Canadian Culture.

Class Credit 1-5 received the class prize from Linda Morgado-Bodecker of the West Island School with 11 entries.

Klara Kruggel secured first prize in the painting competition, Julian Dankort took second place and Savia Burns third, all three students from the Central and South Shore Schools. Congratulations!

We also congratulate Eva de Palmas for winning 1st prize in the Comics Competition (Central and South Shore Schools), Tatiana Mathewson from the West Island for 2nd and Jorge Lagos Lainez (Central and South Shore Schools) for 2nd and 3rd place.

Virtual excursion into German-speaking culture

After a long and hard preparation for the DSDI and DSDII exams, the DSD classes were rewarded with a school Saturday in the virtual escape rooms of the Goethe Institute. There they had to solve riddles about Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Nena and Carola Rocket and prove their detective skills.

Quebec preliminary round of the German International Olympic Games

Seven students from German schools Montreal Center and Rive Sud participated in the preliminary round of the German International Olympic Games.

On a beautiful Sunday they listened to German songs, debated, and prepared a padlet presentation about their favorite German songwriter. They got to taste Döner and typical German sweets to fill up with energy.

We congratulate Bryan and Sophie who qualified for the Canadian final which will take place in early December. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and hoping they will be among the winners representing Canada at the IDO in Germany !

The German-Canadian Friendship Award attributed to Roswitha Haage

The German-Canadian Friendship Award attributed to Roswitha Haage On May 11th 2021, Mrs. Roswitha Haage of Brossard, was distinguished and honoured with the German-Canadian Friendship Award.

The Consul General of Germany in Montreal, Mrs. Dr. Misera-Lang, presented the award to Mrs. Roswitha Haage in person at the consulate for her long-standing work and commitment both as principal of the South Shore German Language School and her role as president of the four German schools of Quebec. Germany’s Ambassador, Mrs. Sparwasser - virtually from Ottawa – also paid tribute to all Mrs. Haage has accomplished to promote the German language and culture in Quebec.

Family and friends of Mrs. Haage, as well as members of the board of directors of the German schools likewise had the opportunity to participate virtually in this special event and offer congratulations on this well deserved distinction.

Award of the painting and writing competition 'My door to Germany/ Austria/ Switzerland'

Big drawing and writing contest 'My door to Germany/ Austria/ Switzerland' in collaboration with the German Foreign Office and the German Educational Fondation Hilfsfond.

Finally, the time has come! 96 great works were submitted and the 2 jurys have finally determined the winners!

We would like to express a big thank you to school administrators, teachers, students and parents. It was only through the cooperation of all parties that the painting and writing competition ran smoothly.

The works were evaluated by 2 juries: a jury consisting of teachers from the participating schools made a pre-selection, a jury consisting of representatives from the German Consulate, the German Embassy and the specialist advisory service for East Canada selected the final winners.

Lanterns workshop 2017

Who would like to craft St. Martins lanterns with us? We also invite brothers and sisters who are not registered and all kids who still need a nice lantern!

To take advantage of this great offer, please register before November 4th : ecoleallemandecentrale@yahoo.ca. We ask 10$ for the crafting materials per non-registered child.

We also sell the battery-operated wands which make the lanterns shine. You can buy them on October 28th and November 11th between 9:30 and 12:00 besides the A-345 at Cégep St-Laurent. Looking forward to crafting with you!

Awards and scholarships 2015/16

Congratulations to Elfie Lach who won the annual trip to Germany in the PAD (Pedagogical exchange service of the standing conference of the Ministers of education and cultural affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) competition. Elfie will spent four weeks in Germany in July 2016. Have fun!

 

We also congratulate the three groups who participated in the pan Canadian ZfA-(Central office for German schools abroad) podcast-competition about ‘fashion’.

The elementary class 4-6 and their teacher Paula received gift cards worth 50$ for their podcast ‘Magic clothes’. Well done, Sophie, Xavier, Wolfgang, Mathias und Ludwig!

 

Anjas elementary class 1-3 produced ‘When Hermione transformed herself into Harry Potter’ and won the 5th place and gift cards worth 70$ in their category. Congrats to Hermine, Mathilda, Marianne, Marion, Nico, Grace, Alessia und Porsha!

 

Susanne’s secondary 3 class students achieved the 2d place and won 200$ with their video ‘The Prime Ministers socks’. Go on like this, Philipp, Elfie und Gabrielle!

 

Furthermore, the DSQ-Schools grant for the 1st time the Hans-Omann-senior-Gedächtnis-Stipendien scholarship (worth 500$ per school) to especially motivated and committed students. They want to commemorate Hans Omann senior who financially supported for years the Saturday-Schools and promoted the German language and culture in Montreal.

 

The German School Montreal Center congratulates Andrei, Maxime and Wolfgang for their perseverance, Alexandra for her determination, Livia, Faustine and Alessia for their exemplary work, Mathieu for his great progress and Kaylynn, Alex and Mathias for their commitment!

As usual, St. Nicholas came to our Christmas party which took place on December 21th. We wish Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year 2016 to all our students, parents and friends.

2015-11-21 : Lanterns’ parade

Same as every year, the kindergarten, preschool and elementary groups crafted nice and bright lanterns. We went outside to practice the typical St. Martin’s songs before participating in the big lanterns’ parade at Parc Lafontaine.
